The team woke up at 5 am on Friday to head to the beach for morning devotions and the sunrise. They sang some worship songs then spent time alone with God; some wrote prayers to Him in the sand. They came home for a few minutes then headed to the park to play kickball and evangelize - “playvangelize” as Mr. Dane called it. The team started a game and invited kids at the park to play with them.
They headed home and had some lunch then that afternoon they all set up for the big cookout that night. At about 6 pm, families of the children at VBS began to arrive at the church. The bouncy house was set up there was games for the kids. We had hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the fixins. After everyone was finished eating, we began water baptisms. Seven or eight children got baptized as well two team members. Some of the youth had the privilege of baptizing a child. The event was incredible. The night’s conclusion was accompanied by a night time water fight between the youth.
Saturday the group spent the morning cleaning the church and the parsonage. They ate lunch and headed to the beach for a few hours. Some kids went swimming, some walked on the pier and some went to a beach shop. The group departed at 3 pm and headed back to the church.
All in all, it was a tremendously successful trip. Over twenty people were saved, about ten baptized, and many lives were changed and impacted for the glory of God!
Pictures from the whole trip are soon to come.
Wednesday (Day 3) everyone took some time for some much needed fun and relaxation and headed to the local water park. They spent the morning there then headed back to the church for VBS set up. The kids started arriving and tonight the numbers seemed to double from last night. The kids learned how God’s word is comforting and over ten children got saved! God is definitely working through this VBS.
On Thursday, the group got to work early doing maintenance around the church. Some groups painted, some did landscaping and some cleaned out the baptism stall. That evening, the most kids so far showed up. (over 50!) Shouts of “God’s word is life-changing!” rang through the building. Seven more kids got saved. The kids that are ready will be baptized Friday at the family cookout.
Everyone woke up by 8 am to get some breakfast before having a time of morning worship and prayer. After that, most of the group headed out to the beach for some fun in that morning. A few hours later they came back for lunch.
The team split into groups and began to “canvas” the neighborhood and surrounding area. One group spent time at the park talking to parents and children about the Vacation Bible School. Another group focused on handing out flyers in the Walmart parking lot. The groups came back for a quick snack before the kids started to arrive at 6:30.
Music started playing and the dancers got on stage. At first the kids seemed uncomfortable with the situation but they slowly started to warm up. They split into their “crews” and went to different stations such as crafts, games, Bible stories, and snacks. In the finale, the kids got up on stage with our youth and worshiped with them. An alter call was made, seven kids went to the front to pray a prayer of redemption. How great to have those additions to the Kingdom of God!
The trip has begun! Read about the events of the first day below.
Everyone arrived at the church at 7:30. We packed up the trailer with the set and decorations, then prayed as a group. We headed out at about 8:30 and got to Wilmington around lunch time. We dropped off the trailer at the church and went to get some lunch. When we got back to the church, there was a group meeting and some free time to unpack some.
After that, a large portion of the kids went out to “canvas” the neighborhood; they handed out flyers and invited people to come to the VBS. Another group stayed at the church to help build the set, while another went to the store to get groceries for the week. We had a little free time before dinner. Most people spent this time blowing up their air mattresses or making their beds up.
Dinner (spaghetti, salad and rolls) was served in the church’s “cafeteria”. We were joined by the head pastor of the church, Jeff Stockford. Once dinner was finished, we entered into a time of prayer and worship. Some of the youth led some praise songs, and after we began to pray and worship the Lord. Hands were laid on the members of the church that attended the meeting. It was a great time of worship!
At the conclusion of the meeting, the youth were surprised with an icecream sundae bar complete with all the fixings. After, they went to a room in the church with a TV hooked up to a Wii and played some fun games together. Lights went out at 11:30 so we would be ready for the next day!
